This beautiful commemorative china plate from Austria was
made by the Victoria company to commemorate the opening of
the Panama Canal. I think that this plate was sold at the
Panama Pacific Exposition that was held in San Francisco in
1915. The edge has a gold trim with a floral pattern. The
center of the plate has beautiful art depicting the isthmus
of Panama split at the location of the canal. A nicely
dressed female figure wearing the colors of the American
flag stands on North American continent extending her hand
to two figures who represent the Atlantic and Pacific
oceans. The two ocean figues are holding hands. Nice art.
The back of the plate has a logo for the Victoria Austria
china company. There is also a three digit number that
appears to be " 240 ". This plate is very beautiful and in
very nice condition. At the extreme edge of the plate, some
of the gold trim appears to be worn off, but most of the
trim is complete. No chips or dings. Most of the plates that I sell has some age. It should be
expected that these items will have some sort of wear or
patina unless listed as "mint". Flaws created during the
manufacturing may not be mentioned as these are part of the
character of vintage or antique items. These flaws may,
however, be mentioned if they cause a structural defect
affecting the items integrity. I do provide large photos of
each item so that you can see the condition. Thank you for
your interest in this item.
