This hook was made in 1997 out of 4.1 mm Paxolin material and painted on both surfaces. Volker marked this boomerang as a Midi Vulcano Hook but the shape is more like a Challenger III and it includes the finger notch on the dingle arm like the Challenger III. This boomerang has a flight range of 80 - 100 metres. I acquired this boomerang directly from Volker's personal throw kit on one of his visits to Ann Arbor. You can add a lead weight to the lift arm tip to increase the flight range. It has light wear and is without damage. It takes a medium hard throw with approximately 45 degrees of layover.
Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sport and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerangs in 2011. He died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith. |
