This small hook was made in the early 1990s out of 3 mm Paxolin and painted on both surfaces. I used to market these for Volker Behrens in the 1990s and I test threw every one to make sure that all boomerangs met the highest standards. This particular hook was an exceptional flyer. The flight was low and circular with a flight range of 50 + metres. I kept this one for my personal throw kit and that is where it has lived for the past 30+ years, It has light wear and minor paint chipping on the dingle arm tip, but it is still in very nice condition. I would consider this one to be in the top 1% of everything that Volker made.
Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sport and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerangs in 2011. He died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith. |
