This ClassicV shape was developed by several throwers from New England in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This was before tribladers were allowed in competition. There were man variations to the blade length and angle between the blades. This particular model was developed by Peter Ruhf. Peter is left handed, but he made this one for me. It was not painted, but the airfoiling and camber were complete. I painted the upper surface with bright colors to make it more visible in flight. This is the classic Fast Catch from the early 1980s and I can do Fast Catch Rounds of 22-25 seconds. It has good wind resistance and I could compete 5 catches without a drop most of the time making it a very good competition boomerang. It lived in my personal throw kit for nearly 40 years. It is in excellent condition. I added a coin with duct tape to the lower surface of the dingle arm to optimize the flight for my personal throwing preferences.
Peter Ruhf was an important competitor and boomerang designer in the early days of the American boomerang movement. Peter was on most of the early boomerang teams. He is the nephew of Ben Ruhe and the twin brother of Larry Ruhf and cousin to Barnaby Ruhe. Peter was involved in the early development of long distance boomerang technology. Al Gerhards used Peter to test left handed Gerhards boomerangs. Peter is famous for setting a world record in Long Distance on the Guinness Book of World Records television show, throwing against Bob Burwell in Australia. In the early 1980s, Peter also designed early Fast Catch and MTA compassion boomerangs. |
