This Lucky 7 shape was developed by Larry Ruhf for multiple competition events. I acquired this boomerang as a trade with Larry in 1989. This one was made out of 4/1 mm Baltic Birch plywood and painted on both surfaces. The underside of both blades are cambered to reduce the inertial forces and increase lift. Both of these modifications are ideal for Fast catch boomerangs. I weight tuned this boomerang by adding a coin with masking tape on the underside of the dingle arm near the elbow. This also increases the lifting forces on the lead arm and the coin is on the lower surface, so it lowers the height of the circular flight. This also makes it a better Fast catch. You could weight tune this boomerang to fly as a 40 metre Round boomerang by putting weights on the lift arm. Any way, this one was such a good performance boomerang that it lived in my personal throw kit for the past 31 years. It is in excellent condition and it has Larry's logo stamped on the underside of the elbow.
Larry Ruhf was an early pioneer in the development of competition boomerangs, especially in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a member of the USA team in the first International Australia vs USA Competition in 1981. Larry has also been an American national champion and world record holder in numerous events, including MTA. Larry was a frequent board member in the United States Boomerang Association. Larry rarely made boomerangs for sale but he did make most of his competition equipment. |
