This Fast Catch Triblader was made in 1993 out of 4 mm Baltic Birch plywood and painted on the upper surface. There is a large hole in the hub and small holes at the base and tips of all 3 blades. Volker made this boomerang for his own use in competition. In 1994, Volker spent the summer at my home and we used his throw kit for much of our recreational throwing. I found this Fast Catch to be well suited for my throwing style, so Volker gave it to me to add to my own throw kit. I can do rounds of 20 seconds with this triblader and I am an older person with vision in only one eye and throwing a right handed boomerang with my left hand. What can you do without these issues? Anyway, this boomerang is in marvelous condition. It is tuned for my personal throwing style and I covered up the hub hole with masking tape to speed it up for a 20 second round of 5 throws and catches. Volker initialed and dated the underside.
Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sport and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerangs in 2011. He died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith. |
