Barnaby Ruhe was a master juggler at tournaments in the 1980s and 1990s. His favorite jugglers were matched pairs of small traditionals made out of 3 mm Birch plywood. These sets were not sold. Barnaby made them for his own use and only a few sets were made. He gave these matched sets names, such as "Romeo and Juliet" or "Fred and Ginger". This is the "Romeo and Juliet" juggling set. It is weight balanced to provide a flight range of 20 metres and to make the flight of both nearly identical. Barnaby gave this set to me at a tournament in 1987. Both boomerangs are signed and dated and in very nice condition. I used this set as jugglers for many years and they resided in my throw kit, not my collection box. Hand made boomerangs by Barnaby Ruhe are also very rare.
Barnaby Ruhe is one of America's most famous boomerang throwers. Barnaby is a graduate of the Naval Academy (Oliver North's classmate) and he is naturally gifted in competition strategy. Barnaby was involved in the early days of American competition development. He is the nephew of Ben Ruhe and his cousins are Peter and Larry Ruhf. He competed on the 2006 American Team in Japan, a full 25 years after his first international competition as a member of the American Team at the 1981 USA-Australia Challenge Match. Barnaby designed and made some of my favorite competition boomerangs, especially his jugglers and the famous Boomerang Fever. |
