This large left handed hook was made in 1986 out of 4.2 mm Paxolin material and painted on both surfaces. Volker made this boomerang as a custom lefty for me. It is marked as #21 and it is a mirror image replica of the Challenger III that he used to set a World Record in Long Distance at 150+ metres. This was reported in MHR. Although Volker could throw his for 150 metres, I was only capable of doing 110-120 metres with this one, but it is a stable and forgiving lefty LD boomerang and it has been part of my personal throw kit for almost 40 years. I can throw this one in calm or wind. Although I have thrown it thousands of time,s it has only light wear and no cracks or dings. I has been one of the more important boomerangs in my personal throw kit and I hate to let it go, but I can no longer throw it because of age and loss of vision. I do prefer these large and heavy Challenger IIIs to the small and thin G12 versions that Volker made decades later.

Specifications: Left Handed ; Tip-to-Tip Span = 39 cm ; Weight = 119 gm

Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sport and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerangs in 2011. He died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith.
