This beautiful art boomerang is marked as "Ivory Billed Woodpecker after Audubon". It was made in 2006 out of Birch plywood in the shape of a pair of this very rare bird eating beetles on a tree trunk. This is one of Pat Cardiff's best pieces of art. I had to trade something valuable to obtain it. It is signed and dated and in new condition. A wonderful and collectible art boomerang. In 1979, I was throwing boomerangs in a field near a Pine forest in North Palm Beach. A pair of very large woodpeckers, the size of Eagles, moved from tree to another for about 15 minutes. They then disappeared into the forest. The pair was either the very rare Ivory Billed Woodpecker or the closely related and more common Pilliated Woodpecker. I returned several times over the following week with my camera, but I never saw them again. About 10 years ago, a smaller woodpecker that was certainly a Pilliated Woodpecker visited my home in Ann Arbor. These birds are so large that you never forget them. This is why I was so interested in this special art boomerang made by Pat Cardiff.
Pat Cardiff is a well known American boomerang craftsman and artist who lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pat doesn't make art boomerangs any more. His current focus is on canvas paintings. Pat specialized in making special theme boomerangs, especially animal art and human caricatures and portraits. Pat's boomerangs have been exhibited in galleries, universities and libraries around the USA. These boomerangs not only look terrific, but they fly well too. Cardiff Art Boomerangs are found in almost every major boomerang collection. |
