This omega was made out of 5.4 mm Birch plywood and painted with pseudo-Aboriginal style art depicting a serpent on each blade. There is a lot of detail in the serpent and in the background. In addition to the fine art, this boomerang is an incredible flyer with a 30 metre flight range. The reverse side has Allen Grindle's logo stamped on the elbow and his signature and the date 1992 is written in pencil next to the logo. It is a fine collectible in excellent condition.
Allen Grindle is a professional artist based in Albany, New York. His provocative black/white woodblock prints, paintings, and sculpture have recurring themes involving birds, human figures, and geometric shapes (occasionally including a boomerang), and have been exhibited in many shows around the world. His first boomerang contest was at Palenville, NY in the late 1980s where he brought several of his homemade and decorated omega-shaped boomerangs, always the same shape, each uniquely decorated. He was a regular attendee and solid competitor at northeastern USA contests, where he'd occasionally bring boomerangs to sell. A back injury in the mid-1990s forced him to stop competing.
