This unusual hook was made in 1987 out of 6 mm Birch plywood and painted bright colors on the tips. The Aero Vincit is a longer range model. It does not need weights because of the inward turning of the dingle arm tip that reduces lift. This reduces turning torque and combined with the high inertial properties, this boomerang goes the distance. It does require a strong, low, straight out throw with lots of spin for best results. It would be best to start your throwing with a quarter or pair of nickels taped to the dingle arm upper surface mid span and then remove the coin(s) after you are comfortable with the flight. These hooks were very popular in the 1980s and in short supply, so they generally sold at higher prices than that of Herb Smith boomerangs. This boomerang is in excellent condition. It belonged to a collector who never threw it.
Red Whittington was America's answer to Volker Behrens. With his long red hair and thin tall build, Red was a naturally strong thrower. Red lived near Columbus, Ohio and he would often show up at Chet's tournaments with a handful of hid beautiful long range hooks. They quickly sold out at high prices, but they are best used by experienced adult throwers who can throw straight out low and with lots of spin. Red's boomerangs have become rare collectibles from one of America's most dynamic periods of boomerang throwing and development. |
