This very large boomerang is a replica of the famous Horse Shoe or Big U made by Al Gerhards in the 1970s. It is lighter than the Gerhards Big " U " because it was made out of Canadian Wild Cherry and Walnut strips. The lighter woods make it easier to throw and catch and this one is a nice flyer with a flight range of 50+ metres. These look cool in flight because the flight path is low and circular and the boomerang rotates slowly. The boomerang is signed and dated 1996. It is in marvelous condition. The previous owner was a collector who never threw it. I gave it about 5 test throws and it was such a good flyer that I wanted to throw it all day. The only negative thing about this boomerang is that the inside several strips on the inside of the dingle arm tip have added epoxy to fill in some gaps, but this is done nicely and it doesn't affect the strength or flight. If you are going to throw a Big "U", I would highly recommend this one.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 56 cm ; Weight = 205 gm

John Cryderman (from Chatham, Canada) is well known for making high quality strip laminated and Birch plywood boomerangs. Many of these are John's original designs. However, he occasionally makes replicas of boomerangs made by other famous boom makers, such as the strip laminated hooks and omegas made by Al Gerhards of Downington, Pennsylvania. John usually makes his strip laminated boomerangs out of native Canadian hardwoods, but he will often use exotic woods, such as Mahogany and Ebony. Some of the plywood and strip laminated boomerangs are decorated with inlaid plugs of exotic woods arranged in pseudo-floral patterns. The vast majority of John's boomerangs are large in size and they require a strong thrower in order for the boomerang to make a full return.
