This item is a collection of trophies that Michael Girvin made as prizes for his Team Gel tournaments in the 1990s. These trophies are clever statues made out of scrap plywood. Each piece is brightly painted and assembled to portray a competitor doing some kind of trick catch. There are three trophies. One is a male competitor and two are female competitors. There are two sets of assembly sheets and a couple of extra bases. Everything is in excellent condition except for one base that has a thin wire broken inside a tiny hole. The wire supports a multiblader in flight. You can drill a new hole or push the wire piece out with a needle. This collection will make a wondeful set of boomerang art that you can display in your home. Cool and Rad!
Michael Girvin (aka Gel) has been making and throwing boomerangs since the 1970s. In the 1980s, Gel founded a subculture within the boomerang community called Team Gel. Most of the Gel sponsored tournaments were held in California and Washington state, but other Gel events were held all over the world. Michael promoted boomerang throwing more than any other thrower in America through his efforts. His tournaments were a lot more fun than the sterile USBA rated comps. Gel also competed internationally on many USA boomerang teams. Team Gel still thrives and events are held on the West Coast on a regular basis. |
