Jack Byham was one of Australia's best known boomerang
manufacturers. He was a real 'Crocodile Dundee' who spent a
lot of time with the Aborigines. Jack made boomerangs and
throwsticks using traditional Aboriginal methods and many of
his products are mistakenly identified as genuine Aboriginal
artifacts. Jack is most famous for his commercial boomerang
products that spanned a half century from the Olympic Games
in Melbourne (1956) through the 1990s. Jack made exceptional
throwsticks and natural elbow boomerangs and these are in
high demand by Australian collectors. This very large traditional boomerang was probably made
in the early 1960s. The natural elbow is possibly Black
Wattle, a tropical hardwood from North-east Australia. This
boomerang is in excellent condition except for a repair to
the lift arm near the tip. The break was carefully glued
back together so that the break is not very noticeable. If
this boomerang did not have a break and repair, it would be
worth much more than $100. Very nice. It will make an
excellent display.
