Duncan Maclennan has been the owner and operator of the
Boomerang School in King's Cross, Sydney, Australia for
several decades. He is well known for giving free boomerang
throwing lessons at a park in Sydney every Sunday. The vast
majority of his boomerang products are excellent flyers. In
the early decades (1960s, 1970s), Duncan employed
Aborigines, like Joe Timbery and his family, to make the
boomerangs that were sold in his shop. In the 1980s and
early 1990s, Duncan had some of his boomerangs manufactured
in the Philippines out of Philippine Mahogany plywood. They
have been made in Australia since the mid 1990s. This large traditional boomerang was probably made in the
early or mid 1970s out of Coachwood plywood. There is a very
strong possibility that this traditional boomerang was made
by Bunny Read and sold to Duncan Maclennan without Bunny's
decorations or Wycheproof stamp because the material, size,
shape and airfoiling are nearly identical to traditional
boomerangs made by Bunny Read at that time. This traditional
boomerang is well made and has good airfoiling. The reverse
side has an oval logo stamped on the elbow that says "
Boomerang School Sydney, Australia ". The entire upper
surface was decorated with a combination of paint and
pyrographic art by Brother Brian Mark Thomas and this
boomerang was part of his estate. It is an excellent
collectable and in wonderful condition. I gave this
boomerang a test throw in calm, warm & humid conditions.
It is a terrific flyer with a range of 20-25 metres.
