This beautiful strip laminated omega was made out of Red Oak in 1983. It has a similar shape as the Gerhards S/L omega and it is possible that George used a Gerhards blank. I purchased this boomerang from Hugh Vandergrift in 1992. It was one of Hugh's favorite sport boomerangs. I kept this boomerang in my personal throw kit for more than a year before retiring it to my collection box. It is a fantastic flyer with a low and circular 50 metre flight. It would be a great boomerang to use in Australian Round. It is in lightly used condition with no cracks or dings. It is signed and dated October 1983.`
George Reitbauer was a top rated competition thrower in the early 1980s. He made both plywood and hardwood boomerangs. Everything he made was a fantastic flyer. George sort of dropped out in the mid 1980s when he moved to Australia in a teacher exchange program. I saw him at a couple of tournaments in the late 1980s, but nothing after that. His boomerangs are among my favorites to throw and collect. |
