Michael Girvin (aka Gel) has been making and throwing boomerangs since the 1970s. In the 1980s, Gel founded a subculture within the boomerang community called Team Gel. Most of the Gel sponsored tournaments were held in California and Washington state, but other Gel events were held all over the world. Michael promoted boomerang throwing more than perhaps any other thrower in America through his efforts. His tournaments were a lot more fun than the sterile USBA rated comps. Gel also competed internationally on many USA boomerang teams. Team Gel still thrives and events are held on the West Coast on a regular basis.

This unusual art boomerang was Gel's entry into the 1995 USBA Nationals Design Contest (Minneapolis). Michael won first place for this boom. It is unique and the most artistic boomerang every made by this boom maker. Shaped like the island of Celebus in Indonesia, this boomerang has 4 blades and a large central hole. The central hole has 3 strands of beads that spell out "Boom Boom Boom" and the strands all meet exactly at the centre of mass. Painted with Gel art on the upper surface. This boomerang is in unused condition.
