This hook was made for the long distance event out of a 3.2 mm composite material (G10?). The blades on the upper surface have turbulator strips. This feature trips the boundary layer and puts it into a more stable turbulent flow. Without turbulators, the transition between laminar and turbulent flow allows unstable recirculation bobbles to form and this hurts airfoil efficiency. The blades have Dimana Boomerangs and Buzz Whip printed on the lower surface to identify the manufacture and model. This one should have a flight range exceeding 120 metres. It looks to be in new condition.
Georgi Dimantchev is a well known boomerang designer and manufacturer from Bulgaria. He is also one of Bulgaria's top designers of small aircraft and he uses his knowledge of aerodynamics to design his high performance boomerangs. His boomerangs often have weights, holes or boundary layer modifying strips on the blades to enhance performance. |
