In 1989, I went to the International Team Cup that was held in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I did not compete, but I had a load of MTAs to sell before starting a new job at General Electric Aircraft Engines. On my first test flight, I had a time of close to 2 minutes using this boomerang. I kept it for my collection and decided to get as many competitor signatures on it as possible. I think that all or most competitors signed this boomerang and on the upper surface there is some art that includes an oil painting of me at the age of 39. Unfortunately, I did not write down who did the art on the upper surface, but the upper surface is signed by Olivier Vouktchevitch. How many signatures do you recognize on the underside? These were the top throwers more than 35 years ago. This MTA is in mint condition and that entire crop of Midi-MTAs with the powder blue paint were all extremely nice flyers. A very nice historical boomerang. Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 42 cm ; Weight = 31 gm
Ted Bailey is a retired Aerospace Engineer who has been making and throwing boomerangs since the early 1970s. The first boomerangs he marketed were multibladers sold on the C.S.U. Sacramento campus in the early 1970s. In the late 1970s, Ted sold traditional boomerangs at the West Palm Beach Mall. In the early 1980s, Ted moved to Ohio and started throwing in Ohio tournaments He developed a line of miniature boomerangs that performed well in competition. In the 1980s, new products included lap joint boomerangs made out of exotic woods and high performance competition boomerangs, especially Fast Catch and MTA. Ted was active in the USBA and served as Secretary, President and as a board member in the 1980s. He was the editor of the USBA newsletter, Many Happy Returns, for two decades and also produced two independent publications: Boomerang Journal and Boomerang News.
