This traditional boomerang is one of the first lap joint spinner models made by Lorin Hawes. It is the small three piece design with the early Hawes logo on the elbow and it was made out of beautiful Silky Oak from Queensland. In the USA, this species of wood is called Lacewood. Several years after making this boomerang, Lorin changed his lap joint boomerang design to a larger 2 piece model. I purchased this boomerang from Max Hoeben in 1997. He purchased it from Lorin Hawes in the 1970s when he was living in Australia. The upper surface is painted with a kangaroo and Aboriginal style art. I haven't thrown this boomerang since 1997 but I remember it to be a really nice flyer. It is in nice condition with some signs of aging, but no damage. A very nice collectible in great condition.
