This large boomerang is the Parrot 17, a hook model originated by Oscar Cuartas. This boomerang was made in 1984 using beautiful tropical hardwoods. The construction includes strip laminations in the elbow and feather lapping on the blades. The core has an Aluminum sheet to add stiffness and increase density. The dingle arm has two embedded lead weights. The lift arm also has two embedded lead weights. I threw this boomerang many times in the 1980s It was one of my favorite flyers with a flight range of 80+ metres and a low circular flight. It has been stored in a controlled environment for more than 25 years. Very rare. Only a couple dozen of these large Parrots were made and few made it to the USA. Most were thrown until they were worn out. Signed and dated 1984. This boomerang is in used condition with wear and several small edge dings from frequent use. There are also several splits in the veneer on the underside of the elbow from moisture loss over the decades. A very rare and valuable collectible.

Oscar Cuartas made beautiful musical instruments out of tropical hardwoods in his native Colombia from the 1940s until his death in 2005. Oscar also made a wonderful line of high performance boomerangs using the same tropical hardwoods and advanced woodworking skills that included feather lapping and bonding aluminum sheet to wood. Oscar won the coveted boomerang design award with one of his large Parrot hooks at the 1984 World Cup, beating out the Janetzki brothers. Cuartas boomerangs were marketed through the Boomerang Man throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The earlier models made before 1987 had Aluminum cores, and they were not mass produced boomerangs. These were the best performers. Some of these boomerangs may require fine tuning if they have been kept in storage and not thrown
