This large left handed strip laminated traditional boomerang was made by Howard Baker out of Ash hardwood strips in the late 1970s or early 1980s. .This boomerang was a favorite model by many and it was sold in the USA through the Boomerang Man catalog. There is a Boomerang Man sticker on the reverse side of the elbow with the words "Bakwood" and "Left" neatly written in pen. From the Rusty Harding estate. Rusty considered this boomerang to be a fine collectable and it is still in mint conidition. I did not test throw this particular boomerang, but these generally have a low circular flight with a range of 30-40 metres. Very rare in this condition and with a fine pedigree.
Bakwood Boomerangs has been making high quality sporting boomerangs for decades. The company has had several owners, all in the UK. Howard Baker was the first owner. He made high quality strip laminated traditional boomerangs out of Ash. These were great flyers and the price was very reasonable. The strip laminated traditionals came in two sizes, but larger, custom made boomerangs were also crafted. Howard's nephew, Adrian Green worked with him and continued making the Bakwood Boomerangs after Howard's death. Adrian supplied boomerangs to David Jones and then the whole business was assumed by Richard Ogilvy under the Davro label. At some point, the name was changed from Bakwoods to Bakwood. |
