This unusual reverse hook boomerang was made by Rick Tilford in the mid 1980s. Rick used this one for longer range sport throwing. It has a flight range of 60-70 metres and the flight is low and elliptical. I had to add a coin to the upper surface of the dingle arm for my style of throwing. Rick printed his name in a Gothic font on the underside and the dingle arm tip has a small unicorn head painted on it. I think that it was made out of plywood with several coats of heavy enamel paint on both surfaces. There is some wear as expected and one layer of paint is chipped off on a spot on the lift arm, but the lower layer of paint and base material is not affected. This hook prefers a dingle arm throw. It was probably a unique model for Rick's personal use. I never saw any other copies of this design being thrown. A great collectible from this not-well-known boom maker.
Rick Tilford was a boomerang manufacturer and competitive thrower from Delaware, Ohio back in the 1980s. He made boomerangs with Gregg Snouffer and he competed in most of the Free Thrower tournaments. A quiet person who made nice flying boomerangs, but he rarely traveled to boomerang events, so if you did not compete in Delaware, Ohio, then you probably didn't cross paths with Rick. |
