John Flynn has been one of America's top boomerang throwers for almost 3 decades. John is especially well known for his competitiveness in the Fast Catch event. However, John is skilled in all of the competition events and has been a prominent member of an American boomerang team in almost every international event. John makes a large percentage of the boomerangs in his throw kit. He also made a series of 100 strip laminated omegas and hooks that had the same high performance as the famous Gerhards hooks and omegas. Very few Flynn boomerangs make it into collections because John rarely made anything for sale to others. In the earlier days of competition, everyone used large boomerangs. The boomerangs used in competition today are smaller and lighter to make them easier to catch. This boomerang is half of an early Flynn Doubling set. This outside Doubler was made out of 10 ply Aircraft Grade Birch plywood and painted red, white and blue at the tips. This boomerang is signed and dated 1990. For the past 15+ years, this boomerang was part of Ben Ruhe's personal throwing kit. I was curious as to why Ben kept only this outside Doubler, so I took it out for a test throw before listing it. This boomerang is one of the nicest Sports boomerangs I have ever thrown. Perfectly crafted, balanced and tuned, this boomerang has a very pleasant 40 metre flight. This is much more range than I would want it to fly if I was using it as half of a doubling set, but I now know why Ben kept this one in his personal throw kit. Really nice to watch in flight too with the red, white and blue paint making concentric circles in the air. If you make booms and want to study perfection, this is a great boom to examine. In excellent condition, signed and dated. |
