This natural elbow boomerang was made during World War II by an Australian Aborigine. It is a beautiful piece of bicolored wood. The blades are thin with a neutral airfoil. Handedness was induced by twisting the blades to add positive angle of attack. This boomerang was twisted for a left handed thrower. The upper surface was decorated with graphics and a good luck message for departing U. S. Soldiers in 1944. This would have been done when General McArthur left Australia on his return to the Philippines. It is unknown who carved the message or who was the intended recipient. This boomerang has warpage near the elbow, probably due to moisture loss over 70+ years of storage. It would be possible to press the boomerang flat if you have some patience. There is also a very small amount of tip damage from use, but this is minimal and it displays very well in its present condition. A very nice World War II collectible. |
