This hunting boomerang, or throwstick was made out of Mulga, a dense desert hardwood. I acquired this boomerang in 1998 from Rob Croll, an artifact dealer from Melbourne. The lower surface of this hunting boomerang has stone chisled texturing with a slight camber. The upper surface is smooth and with totemic markings incidsed into the surface along the entire length. Because of its size, it was either used by young hunters in training or for throwing at birds. There is no damage from use, but there are a couple of knots or worm holes visible on the lower surface. This hunting boomerang was probably made in the early 1900s. A very nice artifact in excellent condition. |
