This hunting boomerang, or throwstick, was made out of a dense hardwood ( Jarah ) from Western Australia. I acquired this boomerang in 1997 from Rob Croll, a collector of Aboriginal artifacts from Melbourne. The wood shows signs of termite channels as is common with this wood. The surfaces were covered with Ochre and one side was painted with ceremonial art. There are rough edges as expected and the Ochre was applied over the rough edges and termite channels. Certainly not a tourist item. It was probably made in the first half of the 20th Century. A very nice artifact with honest Aboriginal workmanship. Not made for tourists.

Length = 60 cm ; Weight = 317 gm
