This item is a lot of 4 African arrow shafts. These were purchased in East Africa by Dain Torguson who travelled extensively in that region in the 1970s and 1980s. All four of the shafts are notched at both ends. One notch is for the bow string. The other notch is for attaching the arrow point. Although the points and fletching are absent, some of the arrows have remnants of cordage that was used to attach the points and/or fletching to the shaft. The age is unknown, but they are probably 20th Century artifacts. Length = 72-88 cm ; Diameter = 5-8 mm ; Weight = 66 gm (total) This artifact is from the estate of Dain Torguson. The family will use the proceeds from the sale of this artifact to display a sculpture crafted by Dain in a public library in Rapid City, North Dakota. |
