This unusual paddle shaped wooden carving is a tool for hunting birds. The Basque take these to seaside cliffs and throw them at birds that are flying around the nests on the cliffs. It is reported that if the paddle misses the bird, it will return to the thrower, like a boomerang. I did not try to throw this paddle club, but it does not appear to have the aerodynamic features necessary to return to the thrower, unless it is thrown almost straight up and/or if the wind blows it back to you. Length = 20 cm ; Weight = 250 gm
