This item is a very old hardwood club from New South Wales. This type of club has a bulbous head and a spiral chisled pointed end for gripping in the hand. It is often called a throwing club, but I think it was used without being thrown. It was made in the 19th Century using stone tools. The entire length has very fine longitudinal grooves made by stone tools except for the spiral grooved handle. This club is in vey nice condition. There are very few marks from impact and no cracks. It is one of the best Aboriginal clubs I have seen. It is also the largest Aboriginal club in my collection. I purchased this club from the Barclay Gallery in 1996.

Length = 75 cm ; Weight = 726 gm
