I purchased this bone atlatl through Russ Hayward Auctions in 1998. The catalog description said it was s prehistoric atlatl made out of bone material and possibly heat tuned to put a proper bend into the shaft. One end is missing a circular section. The culture was identified as Eskimo, but that covers a large percentage of the Artic region. I was told that organic remnants from the same site were dated at 3,000 B.C. I have no documentation for either date or location. The photos provide more information than I can give though words. It is a very nice artifact in wonderful condition. There are probably attachments, such as a peg or a weight that is missing, but the main body is nearly complete. This type of atlatl is very rare and it is the only one that I have seen in several decades of searching for similar artifacts.

Length = 31 cm ; Weight = 184 gm
