This item is a very old and large Polynesian Sword Club from Fiji. When I purchased it from Barclay Gallery, it was described as a large Pole Club of diamond cross section with heavily detailed shell carvings over entire surface; baked over fire with coconut oils and with a small amount of impact blunting to tip, otherwise undamaged. This is a pre-contact artifact. It is most likely from the early 1700s and made without the use of metal tools. It is in very nice condition with only minimal damage to the tip as shown in the photos. I acquired this artifact from the Barclay Gallery in 1989. Barclay Gallery acquired it from an auction house in the UK. A very fine artifact and one of the best pieces in my personal collection for almost 40 years. |
