This item is a long and slender hardwood spear thrower from the Northern Desert of Australia. It has an unusual taper along the entire length. This feature gives this light weight spear thrower exceptional leverage and accuracy. This is the only spear thrower from Australia that I have seen with this design. If I had to use a spear thrower for hunting, this design is what I would select. The peg is 100% intact and the binding is held in place with Spinifex resin. The color of the wood is very dark and it was probably made in the 19th Centrry. This spear thrower is in very nice condition. It is one of my favorite artifacts. |
