This item is a very old hardwood club from Western Australia. It was probably made in the 19th Century. Ben Ruhe collected this club for his personal collection in the mid 1950s. The wood is probably Jarrah which does not darken with age as Mulga which is found in Eastern Australia. This club has a large number of very fine incised longitudinal grooves(fluting). The incised lines run nearly the entire length and it is almost flawless. One end has a short section without fluting. The other end has 7 cm of spiral chisled texture that acts as a hand grip. Very nice. I can understand why Ben Ruhe added this one to his collection. There are very few marks from impact and no cracks. It is one of the best Aboriginal clubs I have seen. I purchased this club from Ben Ruhe in 1983.

Length = 66 cm ; Weight = 297 gm
