This Lap Joint was made in 1984 in the shape of the Binghi Eagle. The boards on the lower surface are Birds Eye Maple. The upper surface is a blend of fancy Maples and exotic hardwoods. The elbow is also Birds Eye Maple, but it is a choice piece with a dense concentration of Bird Eyes. The tips are made out of a choice piece Curly Maple, also called Tiger Tail Maple. Ray Rieser purchased a beautiful antique gun stock and ripped the boards down to 1/8 inch planks and sent them to me to make a lap joint out of Curly Maple for his collection. The tips are from the excess wood and it was perfect for the tips on this boomerang. The woods used in the mid span are all African species. This includes borders made out of Ebony. The interior woods include Purple Heart ( Amaranth ) and Zebrawood. The deep red diagonal strip is Vermillion All of these pieces are a full 1/8 inch thickness and not thin veneers.

I traded this boomerang soon after making it and it traveled throughout several collections. Several years ago, I found it in an estate liquidation and purchased it back for my own collection. It id in excellent condition and as nice as the day it was made nearly 40 years ago. One of my favorites.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 34 cm ; Weight = 84 gm
