Jim Mayfield became interested in the sport of boomerangs in the mid 1980s. He travelled to boomerang tournaments to compete and to collect boomerangs from other top competitors. Jim learned how to make his own boomerangs rather quickly. He began producing commercial boomerangs at his Gunnison Colorado home in the late 1980s. A few years after forming Colorado Boomerangs, Jim sold his company to Richard Pollock-Nelson. Jim worked with Richard after the sale to make sure that the quality of Colorado Boomerang products remained high after his departure. Jim Mayfield was critically injured in a motorcycle accident on 11 October 1999. He died two weeks later at the age of 48. Early examples of Jim's products are very collectable. Colorado Boomerang products made under the direction of Richard Pollock-Nelson are high quality replicas of the original Mayfield boomerangs. The Delicate Arch is one of the more popular boomerangs that was made by Colorado Boomerangs. This is the very rare Xtra Special Edition version of the Delicate Arch, manufactured in the late 1990s. There are 3 weights in the dingle arm tip and 5 weights in the lift arm tip. The extra weights give this boomerang extended range with flights travelling beyond 50 metres. The Delicate Arch Xtra Special Edition is recommended for use only by advanced throwers with the ability to fine tune their own boomerangs. Nicely painted. This boomerang is in mint condition. |
