This beautiful lap joint was made in 1994 out of Walnut. There is a 3/4 inch dowel of Purple Heart in the elbow to strengthen the lap. This boomerang is finished to 12,000 grit and it has a hand rubbed oil finish. This is the only lap joint I have seen by Steve Conaway and the quality is very high. It is in new and flawless condition. I made only a few throws after acquiring it and it had a nice flight of 30+ metres. It has been in my collector's box for the better part of 3 decades. A very nice collectible.
Steve Conaway is a well known boomerang manufacturer from Southern California. He made a large variety of plywood and composite material boomerangs throughout the 1990s and early 2000s under the brand name of " Aboriginal Steve ". He occasionally made boomerangs out of natural hardwoods. Steve worked with NASA in the 1990s doing demonstrations and making boomerangs for their events. |
