This left handed long distance hook was one of two custom made Challenger III boomerangs made out of 4 mm Paxolin material for me [ Ted Bailey ] in 1986. One of these was put into my personal throw kit (where it remains today) and the other was saved as a back up collectible. This boomerang is the lefty Challenger III that was saved as my collectible backup for 30 years. It is painted black, red, gold and white and there is a lead weight taped to the underside of the lift arm tip. It has only been thrown a few times (in 1986) to make sure the tuning was perfect and it was a wonderful flyer with a flight range of 110+ metres. Volker wrote " Challenger III #22 ; Made by V. Behrens for Ted Bailey ; Lübeck, W. Ger. ; Nov. 86 " on the underside. This is a wonderful collectible and a rare left handed Challenger III.

Specifications: Left Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 40 cm ; Weight = 119 gm

Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sporting and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerang products in 2011 and he died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith.
