New Guinea Art in the Collection of the Museum of Primitive Art ( 1967 )

Publisher: Printing-Admiral Press ; Author(s): Douglas Newton ; Hard Cover with DJ : 132 pages ; illustrated ; English

The tribesmen living in New Guinea are among the most famous art-producing people of the primitive world. A great number of communities living on the second largest island in the world, in comparative isolation until recently, they have created a vast number of paintings, carvings in wood and ceramics. The 132 illustrations in this book, from the Museum of Primitive Art, represent a comprehensive sampling of their many artistic traditions. Some are already well-known, others newly discovered in the exploration of the past few years; each places the others in hitherto unknown perspectives. The book is in excellent condition except for a few light stains on the first blank page and the DJ is damaged from handling, but complete.
